The Real Meaning of Forgiveness
It's a bit weird that I've only realized it now but forgiveness is more than just forgiving someone, what it really means is making peace with yourself.
Maybe I'm stupid or slow or both but you can tell someone you forgave them and it could be true. But have you really forgiven them tho?
Not really.
Because it's starts with you. If in your head, you still feel upset and angered by what happend in the past. You haven't really let go of it.
In a way, forgiveness is letting go of all the emotions, thoughts and actions that hurt you.
If you continue to relive those sad moments, you haven't forgiven them.
We tend to say a lot things we don't mean and weirdly enough *forgiveness* is one such word.
We are basically lying to ourselves. I wonder how many lies we tell ourselves every day.
Remember Watson from Sherlock Holmes?
The first chaper starts with Watson twisting and turning in bed, re-living the horrific moments from his stint as a doctor and soldier in World War 1.
Later that day, when a friend asks him how he is doing. Watson casually replies that his fine.
But, is he tho?
Nope.
And this is quite scary because what it means is that we will never know if someone is telling the truth or lying because they could, very well, be lying to themselves.
One way to find out is to observe the actions: The body never lies.
By observing Watson’s demeanor, the great Sherlock Holmes could tell what was really going on with him.
But dumb folks like us, don't really have the time or energy to observe ourselves and others. We accept our lies and other's because it's easy.
And this creates a little dragon 🐉 that stays with us causing immense pain and suffering.
How?
Well, if you believe in your own lies you will not solve your problems because you don't see them.
The first step to problem solving is being aware that there's a problem.
So, how many dragons are you carrying?
